തള്ളെ .. ദേ ഒര് പൊളപ്പന്‍ അവധി കൂടെ... പഴേ അവസ്ഥകള് വച്ചു നോക്കേയാണെങ്കില് ഇപ്പഴും ക്ലാസ്സ്, ഹാജര്‍ എന്നും പറഞ്ഞു തേരാ പാര നടക്കെണ്ട്താ.. എന്തെരോ എന്തോ, നമ്മടെ നല്ല സമയങ്ങള് തന്നെ.. അല്ലെങ്കി പിന്നെ തൃശൂര്‍ ജില്ല മുഴുക്കലും ലിവിടെ തന്നെ വന്ന്‍ ചാപ്പകുത്തണം എന്ന് വ്വോ കേന്ദ്രത്തീന്ന് അറിയിപ്പുകള് എന്തരു? അത് തന്നെയല്ലെടെ, ലോ പെട്ടികള് കൊണ്ടന്ന് കൂട്ടിയിടനതും നമ്മടെ പള്ളിക്കൂടത്തി തന്നെ.. പോരെ പൂരം..

എന്തര് തന്നെയായാലും ഈ മൊടക്ക് നമ്മള് പൊളിക്കും കേട്ടോ മച്ചു.. തോനെ പരിപാടികലാല്ലെടെ.. എന്തര് തന്നെ ആയാലും ഞാ നാളെ കാലത്തു കോഴിക്കോട് പോണ്.. ഇനി ഏതായാലും തോനെ ദിവസങ്ങള് കഴിഞ്ഞേ വരത്തൊല്ല്.. ചെല്ലക്കിളികളൊക്കെയായിട്ട് കറങ്ങണ്.. ഒത്താല് രണ്ട് മലകളും കേറിട്ടെ തിരിച്ച് ഒള്ള്..

S F I സംസ്ഥാന കമ്മറ്റി അംഗവും മുന്‍ ജി ഇ സി യൂണിറ്റ് സെക്രട്ടറിയും ആയ സഖാവ് രതീഷ്‌ കുമാര്‍ കെ മാണിക്യമംഗലം പാനലിനെ വിദ്യാര്‍ത്ധികള്‍ക്ക് പരിചയപ്പെടുത്തി. തുടര്‍ച്ചയായ 30 കൊല്ലം ഒരു വിദ്യാത്ധി പ്രസ്ഥാനം ഒരു പ്രൊഫഷനല്‍ ക്യാമ്പസില്‍ ഇത്ര ശക്തമായ നിലയില്‍ പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കുക എന്നത് ഏതൊരു സഖാവിനും അഭിമാനിക്കാനുള്ള കാര്യമാണെന്ന് സഖാവ് ഓര്‍മിപ്പിച്ചു.

മെക്കിന്റെ സെക്രട്ടറി ആയി എന്‍റെ സഹപാഠിയും ഉറ്റ ചങ്ങാതിയുമായ നന്ദു സത്യപ്രതിജ്ഞ ചെയ്തു. മുകളില്‍ പറഞ്ഞ ഒന്‍പതു ജനറല്‍ സീറ്റില്‍ അഞ്ചു പേരും മെക്കാനിക്കല്‍ ആണ്. അതില്‍ നാല് പേര്‍ എന്‍റെ സഹപാഠികളും ആണ്. ഞങ്ങള്‍ വലിയ പുള്ളികളല്ലേ.?

എനിക്ക് ഭ്രാന്തുപിടിച്ച്ചതൊന്നുമല്ല. പരീക്ഷക്ക്‌ എഴുതാന്‍ ഒന്നുമില്ലാതിരുന്ന അവസരത്തില്‍ എന്നിലെ കലാ(കൊലാ)കാരന്‍ ഉണര്ന്നതാണ്. പരീക്ഷകള്‍ മനുഷ്യന്റെ കലാവാസനയെ ഉണര്‍ത്തും. എത്ര സത്യം. തുടര്‍ന്ന് വായിക്കുക ...

ഈ കരയില്‍ നില്‍ക്കുമ്പോള്‍ ഞാന്‍ ഭയപ്പെടുന്നു. ജീവിതത്തിന്റെ തിരക്കില്‍ നിന്ന് ഒരു ആശ്വാസത്തിന് വേണ്ടിയാണ് ഞാന്‍ ഇവിടെ വരാറ്. നിത്യവും തുടര്‍ന്ന് പോകുന്ന തിരക്കിന്റെ ചര്യയില്‍ നിന്ന് ഒരു മോചനം. നാളയെക്കുറിച്ച്‌ ചിന്തയില്ലാതെ ഏതാനം സമയം. മറ്റുള്ളവര്‍ക്ക് പങ്കുവയ്ക്കാതെ എന്റെ മാത്രം സ്വകാര്യതയിലേക്ക് ചേര്‍ത്ത് വയ്ക്കാന്‍. മനംമടുപ്പികുന്ന ജീവിത യാഥാര്‍ത്യങ്ങളില്‍ നിന്ന് നിര്‍വികാരതയുടെ അകലങ്ങളിലേക്ക്. മറ്റൊന്നിനേ പറ്റിയും ചിന്തിക്കാതെ, തടസങ്ങളെ അതിജീവിചൊഴുകുന്ന ഈ പുഴക്കരയില്‍.

ഞാന്‍ ഭയപ്പെടുന്നു. ഒറ്റപെടലിന്റെ ഏകാന്തതയില്‍ നിഇന്നു കഴിഞ്ഞ കാലത്തിന്റെ ഏടുകള്‍ മറിക്കുമ്പോള്‍. നഷ്ടപെട്ടതിനെപറ്റി എനിക്ക് വിഷമം തോന്നുന്നില്ല. വീണ്ടും നഷ്ടപെടുമോ എന്ന ഭയം. ഒന്നും നേടാതെ ആര്‍ക്കുമൊന്നും നഷ്ടപെടുന്നില്ല.

നേടണം എന്ന വാശിയെ നഷ്ടപെടുമോ എന്ന ഭയം കൊണ്ട് കുഴിച്ചുമൂടി ഞാന്‍ തിരിച്ചുപോന്നു.

കാലി പേപ്പര്‍ സാറിന് കൊടുത്തു ഞാനും ഇറങ്ങിപോന്നു.

Week 1, New World

It's almost a week since i installed ububnt 8.04.1 in my system. And i think it's time to express my first impressions. That of a common user. That is, keeping in mind that most of my readers are hardcore linux developers and debuggers(please note..not de-beggers)... (again i lie pretty.. :P). actually they develope C programmes and somebody did something called 'ZOPE PORTING' which i understand is something of an achievement from the fact that some multinational payed a hefty sum for that(if i missed something tell me, uh?). lolZ..

1. I love the new ubuntu's start up sound. pretty much like African drums( i read somewhere that ubuntu has its origins in the Bantu languages of Southern Africa).

2. Saves me the trouble of installing device drivers for lan, audio, n video(which are the only three i do after each formatting with windows).

3. Also i don't have to install firefox, vlc, im clients and many other common use software(even though windows provides alternatives). Everything you ever need to use are already there in the form of firefox 3, pidgin, open office, gimp etc.

4.The multiple workspace option is a great boon to mask chat windows from parents, which i make use of to it's maximum.

But i'm very unhappy for some problems like

1. During installation, i was stumped with the partitioning part, which is even difficult than that of windows xp.

2. Many a times, i couldn't connect to the internet through ubuntu, but at the same time in windows i am able to connect.

3. My screen resolution is limited to a maximum of 960x800, which is pretty boring. After being accustomed to the small font sizes of windows, which i actually like, it's disappointing. I tried reconfiguring the xserver with dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg, but still no avail. display properties lists the above said maximum resolution with a refresh rate of 60 Hz only.

4. Even though audio and video players are pre-installed, i had to download codecs for popular formats like mp3 and avi from the internet, which i must say, beats the purpose of these players in the first place.

5. Ubuntu hanged my system after which i had to switch off my cpu to reboot again twice already. though i first attributed it to the deteriorating condition of my HDD, windows XP SP2 running on the same HDD has not crashed even a single time.

6. And wef yesterday, my 'h' and ''x' keys have ceased to work in linux. Can't comprehend what the problem is. A message says XKB(or something like that) failed to load something else.

I've mentioned my problems in depth because someone will come up with a solution.

All in all, i'm happy. Not only because i don't have to click the i agree umpteen number of times, but also because according to Keir Thomas "it gives complete power over your system".

Into a new world

Change is inevitable. Change is the law of nature. Last few months saw a lot of change. For starters, the rule of king in Nepal gave way to democracy and first time in the history of Nepal, a maoist president claimed office. The left wing broke out of UPA in India and the CPI[M] expelled one of it's high ranking member, Somnath Chatterjee.

Aside from political changes, the technology saw an uprising over the Apple i-phone 3-G which started the paradigm shift from operators controlling handsets to vice versa. everything is changing. Isn't it?

I decided to change myself. Transform my life. Transform it once and for all. I decided finally to switch to linux.As with any average pc user, i lived on MS windows. I've had used linux before, but never really felt i'd want to use it on my personal pc. But things do cahnge, don't they?

After coming to GECT, which has a computer science department which is an active supporter of free software and the linux community, i was greatly drawn to linux. But that was only because of the curiosity to find what is so hyping about linux.

In the mean time i had installed ubuntu(which was the only one i had) just for horror(courtesy: njekku) a couple of times and uninstalled later, because it couldnt support most of my hardware(though i din't really know untill recently, i was using ubuntu 5. something version).

Things really got moving after RMS came to UC college, aluva. A friend of mine wrote a post about their meeting rms and on the ideals of free software, and we had a heated debate over some ideals which prompted guidance from many experienced free software activists including pramod sir and vivekettan.

After much thought i decided to give linux a real chance and asked my ex-roommate bristow for a dvd. As u can guess, he couldn't give me one. Time passed. Seasons changed. May be by the stroke of fate, i stumbled across ubuntu's free shipping programme.

The rest, you can imagine. I logged in, I registered, and I received. A cd containing the lastest UBUNTU 8.04.1 LTS Desktop Edition. along with four stickers proclaiming "ubuntu, linux for human beings".
I was really happy to see the disk packed in kinda good package from Netherlands. And thanks to bristow and dasappan who inspired me to take this drastic step (he he). And last but not the least, to all of ma cs friends, leading by example, refusing to even install windows as a secondary boot in their systems(i lie pretty.. don't i?).

Will share my experiences with linux later. Any ways, linux, here i caom...(rollz..:D)
